International conference next weekend in Dublin on Empowering Women Through Secularism

It’s just a week now to Atheist Ireland’s international conference on Empowering Women Through Secularism, in the Alexander Hotel in Dublin on 29-30 June 2013.

We have a marvelous speaker line-up, including Dan Barker, Ophelia Benson, Ann Brusseel, Clare Daly, Carlos Diaz, Doctors for Choice, Jane Donnelly, Rachel Donnelly, Annie Laurie Gaylor, Leonie Hilliard, Anthea McTiernan, PZ Myers, Maryam Namazie, Taslima Nasrin, Michael Nugent, Nina Sankari, Farhana Shakir, Kate Smurthwaite, Ailbhe Smyth, Ann Marie Waters, and Rebecca Watson.

Topics and Purpose

The conference will include sessions on:

  • Reproductive rights (and Irish abortion law)
  • Secular Values in Society
  • Separation of Church and State
  • Human Rights
  • Keynote speech by Taslima Nasrin
  • Politics and Campaigning
  • Dublin Declaration on Empowering Women Through Secularism
  • Review of Conference and What Next

Each session will include four short talks and a panel discussion with audience participation. The first five topic-based sessions will aim to prepare sections on that topic to include in the Dublin Declaration on Empowering Women Through Secularism, which will be finalised during the sixth session.

Free Scholarship Tickets

Based on feedback, we have arranged for some scholarship tickets, free of charge, for people with a genuine interest in empowering women through secularism who cannot afford the admission price.

Sunday Evening Comedy with Kate Smurthwaite

One of our speakers, Kate Smurthwaite, will be performing in a comedy show in McGrattan’s Cafe Bar off Baggot Street at 8.30 pm on Sunday 30 June.

It is a benefit gig for the Abortion Support Network, and others of our speakers will be there to support the show.
