Launch of Johnny Giles autobiography

I’m just back from the launch of the autobiography of my childhood hero, footballer John Giles, written with Declan Lynch. The event, held in a part of the new Lansdowne Road stadium that looked eerily like Busarus, included an X-Factor series of songs sung by former Ireland international footballers Eamon Dunphy, Liam Brady, Eoin Hand, Mick Martin and Giles himself.

Dunphy sang the Sondheim classic Send in the Clowns and, as he reached the lines ‘But where are the clowns? Quick, send in the clowns. Don’t bother, they’re here,’ he was looking pointedly at FAI Supremo John Delaney.
