Freaking Christ on a Crutch!!

Agnostic/Atheist societies in general do better. Look at Sweden and it's rates of teen pregnancy being some of the lowest in the world.

Stewart,

I am neither Christian nor atheist. I do not live in Europe, but America.

The fall of man is just as prevalent in Judeo-Christian culture as it is in the opposite. While you and "the majority" may be happy living in a society based around these ideals, passing 'blasphemy' laws are not the way to try and shut out those who oppose you.

In fact (at least here in the United States) one should be able to say whatever he please (non-threatening) without government meddling in their lives. Government's sole purpose should be to protect it's people, nothing more. If a few Christians/Catholics/Muslims/Buddhists/(fill in the blank) can't take opposition to their faith, then what faith have they?

Bruce,

No, it was an original posting. The Scots were never made to join the Church of England. I'm not a Catholic, so there can be as many popes fighting to be Top of the Popes as they like. It isn't Christian to call yourself 'infallible'. I know things are different in the Emerald Isle, but that's the fault of religion, not faith. Sometimes I go to the Free Presbyterian Church of Ulster here on the mainland, and one preacher spotted a young man carrying a banner which read, "For God and Ulster". The preacher asked the man if he believed in God; he replied that he didn't.

There is fighting all over the world because there are often two 'teams' in a given society, whether Proddy vs Tim, rich vs poor, Hutu vs Tutsi, communists vs democrats, etc., etc. It's a tribal thing.

Your final sentence shows what has been going wrong. The social engineers have used immigration to deliberately change the fabric of society. This has now been admitted in Britain.

[...] Starting today, blasphemy is a crime in Ireland. Which is really confusing. After all these scandals concerning the catholic church in Ireland, you’d think the Irish would want to cut themselves some slack. Anyway, Atheist Ireland has began a campaign to have the law repealed with publishing 25 blasphemous quotes by famous people. (You can also find them here.) [...]

Stewart did you even bother to think about your comment before posting it or did you just copy and paste it from one of your religious email groups? What compassionate society are you talking about, the one where England invaded Scotland and forced the Scott's to give up their ways and follow the Church of England? The one where France and England both followed different Popes and therefor had a divine mandate to kill each other. Or lets go with more recent history where the Irish were blowing each other up in the middle of the streets because, while both the Protestants and the Catholics pretty much read from the same book, Protestants don't recognize the Pope as legit?

How many wars can be linked directly to religion? How many innocent people through out history have been murdered by good honest God fearing people? Lets see, two major crusades, the Spanish Inquisition, the Salem witch trials, the IRA, the prolifers, etc, etc. Lets not forget about all the children who's life's were damaged by the direct action of "The Church" as well

Now I only went with Christian/Catholic examples here since that is the society that you asked for but it would be just as easy to do with any religious group.

The problem with society right now is not the abandonment of any religious believe but the fact that each religious group has people that think that their views are the best for everyone.

View from here in Scotland...

Be honest with me. If 'atheists'/humanists/secularists, or however you want to label yourselves, accepted that the majority were happy to live in a society based on Judeo-Christian culture then we would still have that better, more compassionate society today and there would be no need for such all-encompassing and unacceptable laws. Are the unbelievers so blind that they could not appreciated the benefits they enjoyed before, or see what would happen by creating a spiritual and cultural vacuum?

By aiding the destruction of Christianity, you have actually brought us into a society that benefits practically nobody - including you and me.

And it will keep getting worse the more the Almighty is dispensed with. I absolutely guarantee it.
