Its very sad to watch this. Richard Dawkins is a very intelligent man and I don't see why he is going on these ridiculous American shows.

The host is trying to spin him off as a lunatic. Its very sad to watch this. The wold is flat and the tooth-fairy is … well..

I have to agree with your comment michael about the militant atheist approach. It just doesn't seem very militant does it? Haha. I could not believe mr. purcell saying "…we're talking about a god at the 'pure level of reason'" Wow that was a good deal of evidence he just presented as to why it is perfectly reasonable to believe in god! I'm convinced *cringe*. OH and "science doesn't explain itself, science" ???? OH and religion explains itself? Does it now???

Militant atheist approach?

As somebody has said elsewhere: militant Muslims drive planes into buildings, militant Christians murder doctors who perform abortions, and militant atheists write books.

I agree, Justin. And it does seem to have been planned. Richard Dawkins has said that he was told beforehand there would be an audience contribution by a priest.

The only two questions on evolution were when did humans arrive one earth, and what will happen to humans in the future. Quite a narrow perspective on evolution, to put it mildly.

Firstly thanks you for transcribing the interview as I switched off the programme after only a few minutes after cringing one too many times at the vacuous, and occasionally hostile, nature of the questioning. I have to agree with many of the comments above, this was a missed opportunity for Tubridy to show that he could handle a serious topic with a serious guest without resorting to either the over-fawning or bear-baiting approaches common to so much of television interviewing these days. Sadly he failed to take the opportunity. I am left with the feeling that Dawkins arrived on the show a couple of weeks too late.

I think its fair to say that Tubridy didnt give Dawkins the stage to present his views in an environment that was 100percent supportive, but that's absolutely necessary with Dawkins given his militant atheist approach. I find it bizarre that Tubridy is accused of "pleasing his listeners" when these days it is far more likely that people would accept Dawkins hook line and sinker. I felt there was great balance. Dawkins expressed his views, and Tubridy created an environment where people could feel at ease putting their hands up for a belief in God. Generally Dawkins intimidates and he wasnt allowed to.
